Acer Saccharum Sap

Acer saccharum sap is the clear liquid extracted from sugar maple trees, commonly known as maple sap. In skincare, it functions primarily as a humectant—a water-binding ingredient that helps draw and retain moisture from the environment into the outer layers of the skin.

The sap contains naturally occurring compounds including sugars, amino acids, and minerals. These components work together to support skin hydration and maintain the skin's moisture balance, making it a gentle addition to both simple and complex skincare formulations.

As a humectant, maple sap works by attracting water molecules and holding them within the skin's outer layer. This helps to improve skin hydration and can reduce the appearance of dryness and flaking.

The natural sugars and minerals present in the sap may also provide light conditioning and antioxidant benefits, though the primary mechanism is its humectant activity. This makes it particularly useful in hydrating serums and moisturisers where sustained moisture support is desired.

Maple sap is best incorporated into hydrating serums, toners, or lightweight moisturisers where it can work synergistically with other humectants and occlusives. Apply to damp skin to maximise its water-binding effect. It works well in layered routines and can be used morning and evening as part of your regular hydration step.
