An ester of lanolin
What Is Acetylated Lanolin Alcohol?
Acetylated lanolin alcohol is an ester of lanolin, a waxy, emollient substance derived from sheep’s wool. An ester is a compound formed from an alcohol and an acid with the elimination of water, and are common among cosmetic ingredients. In skin care, it’s used as an emollient and occlusive agent.
When emollients are applied to skin, they help to promote hydration by discouraging water loss. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel reviewed acetylated lanolin alcohol and deemed it safe for use when used in current accepted concetrations levels (0.02%-6.3%).
