Argan Oil Glycereth-8 Esters

Argan Oil Glycereth-8 Esters is a modified form of argan oil—a plant oil extracted from the kernels of the argan tree native to Morocco. The ingredient has been chemically processed with glycerin and ethoxylated to create a compound that functions as both a cleanser and emollient. This transformation allows the argan oil to work as a surfactant (cleansing agent) whilst retaining some of the skin-conditioning properties of the original oil.

Unlike pure argan oil, which sits on the skin, this esterified version is designed to help dissolve oils and impurities during cleansing whilst also leaving behind a moisturising residue. It's commonly used in cleansers, makeup removers, and some conditioning formulations.

This ingredient works through two simultaneous mechanisms. As a surfactant, it has a molecular structure with both water-loving and oil-loving ends, allowing it to surround oil-based dirt and makeup and lift them away from the skin. This cleansing action is gentler than many synthetic detergents because it's derived from a natural oil.

Simultaneously, the argan oil component conditions the skin by depositing a thin, protective layer that helps retain moisture. This dual action makes it effective for formulations that need to cleanse without leaving skin feeling tight or dry—a balance that's particularly useful in makeup removers and facial cleansers designed for regular use.

This ingredient is most effective when used as part of a cleanser or makeup remover. If you're using a product containing this ingredient, follow the formulation's instructions—typically applying to damp skin, massaging gently, and rinsing or wiping away. There's no benefit to using it in higher concentrations than the formulation specifies, and it's best paired with a suitable follow-up step (such as a water-based cleanser) if used as a first cleanse in a double-cleanse routine.
