Bertholletia Excelsa Extract

Also known as: Bertholletia excelsa

From the Brazil nut tree

What Is Bertholletia Excelsa Extract?

Bertholletia excelsa extract comes from a plant more commonly known as the Brazil nut. Extracts from this plant can come from its bark, seeds, or stems.\n\nWhile there isn’t a great depth of research at this point on Brazil nut extracts uses in cosmetics, what we do know about it is promising.\n\nAs with most other plant-derived extracts, it contains skin-beneficial antioxidant compounds, particularly polyphenols. One study found that the stem-bark extract from Bertholletia excelsa stimulates collagen production, making it a valuable ally in the fight against visible signs of aging.\n\nBertholletia excelsa extract is most often prepared for cosmetics in a base of water and glycerin. In this form, use levels of the extract range from 0.25–2.5%, with clinical studies showing impressive benefits beginning at a 1% use level.
