Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract

Also known as: Hinoki, Hinoki cypress

Comes from the Japanese cypress tree

What Is Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract?

Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf extract comes from a tree also called Japanese cypress, Hinoki, or Hinoki cypress. Its wood is considered a high-quality timber and is used in many Japanese ornamental structures.\n\nStudies show that the extract from its leaves has antioxidant properties (this is true of most plant-derived ingredients). Topical application helps skin fight off oxidative stress that leads to most of the visible signs of aging.\n\nAdditional research demonstrates that Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf extract also exerts anti-inflammatory benefits on skin. There are even some studies suggesting it can preserve collagen by inhibiting an enzyme that contributes to the degradation of collagen over time (a result of intrinsic aging).\n\nUse levels of Chamaecyparis obtusa leaf in skin care typically range from 0.1–5%, with the greater amount pertaining to water-based blends that contain several plant extracts targeted to various concerns such as acne and dandruff.
