What Is Fruit Enzymes?
Fruit enzymes are proteolytic enzymes derived from various tropical fruits, most commonly papaya (papain) and pineapple (bromelain). These enzymes work by breaking down the keratin protein in dead skin cells, facilitating gentle exfoliation.
Unlike acid exfoliants, fruit enzymes work at the skins surface without affecting living cells below. This makes them exceptionally gentle and suitable for sensitive skin types that cannot tolerate chemical exfoliation.
The enzyme action is activated by water and body heat, making them effective in masks and cleansers where they can work during application time.
