What Is Lactobacillus/Portulaca Oleracea Ferment Extract?

Lactobacillus/Portulaca oleracea ferment extract is the product of fermenting the extract of the Portulaca oleracea plant – also known as purslane – with a specific strain of bacteria, in this case, Lactobacillus. This fermentation process likely heightens the benefits naturally present in the plant and creates new substances which may further benefit skin, such as enhanced smoothing and conditioning.

Purslane is a good source of antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, and E, plus glutathione. It also contains genistein, which can help improve the appearance of lax skin.

Use levels of Lactobacillus/Portulaca oleracea ferment extract in cosmetics range from 1–5% depending on the blend.
