What Is Palmitoyl Grapevine Shoot Extract?

Palmitoyl grapevine shoot extract is an ingredient combining the fatty acid palmitic acid and the extract of vine shoots (actively growing stems) from the common grape, Vitis vinifera. It is a proprietary ingredient for French cosmetics brand Caudalie.

While there isn’t much independent research on palmitoyl grapevine shoot extract’s exact impact on skin, we do know that grape-derived ingredients have potent antioxidant benefits.

One study found that grapevine shoots have the second-highest concentration of antioxidant superstar resveratrol in the grape plant, after vine stems. Resveratrol is well-known for its ability to improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and boost skin’s resilience and firmness, so it can be theorized that palmitoyl grapevine shoot extract does the same.

Since this is a proprietary ingredient, use levels of palmitoyl grapevine shoot extract are not publicly available; however, the suspected usage range is between 0.1–2%, depending on the formula.
